“In my experience, one of the most difficult aspects of any litigation is trying to navigate through complex legal and medical issues. And the importance we place on informing our customers cannot be overstated. We want our customers to know the process and feel comfortable with the process … [No] the client should always have a question and be in the dark about what is going on with their case, ”says Brown.

Bogoroch emphasizes that mediation is essential to dispute resolution “because it allows the parties to settle their cases without going to trial”. In places like Toronto, Ottawa and Windsor, where mediation is mandatory, parties have the option of settling cases through other means before the court sets a trial date. Having arbitrated thousands of cases over two decades, Bogoroch & Associates believe that the mediation process “allows [parties] to have peace of mind, knowing that the dispute is resolved and allows them to move on with their lives ”. Mediation is particularly important in dealing with backlogs in court cases due to restrictions related to the pandemic.

Brown also notes the recent changes in attorney-client interactions, which previously involved office meetings and shifted to phone calls and Zoom meetings. In addition, affidavits and documents are signed electronically instead of requiring manual signatures. These changes, she says, “bring the practice of law into the 21st century, and I don’t see us going back in that perspective.”

In addition to implementing these innovations, the firm is also focusing on its philanthropic initiatives, such as the sponsorship of law scholarships.

“We’ve tried to make it a bit easier for those who want to go to law school, but don’t have the financial means,” says Bogoroch. The firm offers entrance scholarships to Osgoode Hall Law School and McGill Law School, as well as funding to the Queens University Law School Legal Aid Program. Bogoroch believes that legal aid is fundamental to Canadian democracy and that the firm’s contributions are consistent with the goal of helping more people benefit from the justice system.
