Dennis was initially dropped from the original 25-man squad called up by Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro to continue in Nigeria’s upcoming friendly against Algeria’s Desert Foxes.
However, the former Watford striker has been selected as a replacement for Henry Onyekuru after the Adana Demirspor striker withdrew due to injury.
In an interesting turn of events, Dennis has also turned down the invitation to the Super Eagles squad with speculation aplenty that the 24-year-old is also carrying an injury.
So, while providing squad updates on their players called up for international duty, Nottingham Forest confirmed that Dennis had indeed turned down Nigeria’s invite due to injury.
In an official press release posted on the club’s website, Nottingham Forest commented on both Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis regarding their international call-ups.
The statement read in part: “Taiwo Awoniyi have both been called up to the Nigeria squad for their friendly match against Algeria on Tuesday 27 September at 8pm UK time. Emmanuel Dennis, meanwhile, s is withdrawn due to injury.”
Emmanuel Dennis made his Super Eagles debut on September 10, 2019, in an international friendly against Ukraine which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Since then, the Kwara Football Academy graduate has made just six (6) further appearances for the national team, recently scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles in the 10-0 defeat of Sao Tome & Principe.
