Jamie Vardy could be out for longer than the initial three to four week deadline given by Brendan Rodgers, which could be a blow to Leicester City.
The forward came to a halt in the second half of the 1-0 win over Liverpool late last month with a hamstring problem.
City had used all of their substitutes in the game, however, which led to the ex-Englishman fighting for the final 20 minutes.
It was revealed by Rodgers last week that the injury will keep Vardy on the away for “three to four weeks . ‘
âHe was going out,â Rodgers said. âBut the warrior that he is, he didn’t want to. If we could have made another submarine it would have helped protect it.
It is now reported by the Daily mail that Vardy could be out any longer, City “reluctant to rush” the 34-year-old into form and risk causing a longer-term injury.
The news comes as City approach the FA Cup third round match against Watford with no senior strikers available.
In addition to Vardy’s injury, forward Patson Daka also remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem. Rodgers confirmed on Boxing Day that the Zambia international will be outside for a few weeks . ‘
Both injuries come as Kelechi Iheanacho travels to Cameroon to represent Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
This leaves City without a recognized attacker on the squad with Harvey Barnes or Ayoze Perez expected to play the role against the Hornets.
Brendan Rodgers will give the latest update on the injury situation when he addresses the media at 1:30 pm today, you can follow the press conference on LeicestershireLive.
