Phil Hay has spoken of Leeds United’s hope over Kalvin Phillips’ injury on Phil Hay’s show.
Phillips has been a regular at Marcelo Bielsa both in the Premier League and in the Championship and the club now seem to rely very heavily on him to have won only twice in the league last season without him, as they wavered in his absence on the opening day of the season against Manchester United.
Will Leeds finish in the first half this season?
Following the delight of Leeds fans to see their side clinch his first Premier League victory before the international break, Phillips had to withdraw from the last England team due to an injury, although there is some positivity around the severity of the blow.
Hay discussed what Leeds think of Phillips’ injury.
“Leeds seem pretty optimistic about it and hope they don’t miss a game. So I think the idea will be for him to come back, get treatment, work next week and be, fingers crossed, fit for the Southampton game.
“I mean, he’s someone they can’t afford to lose in the long run so if he turns out to have a problem with England it makes sense from a point of view of the club to get him back and take care of him. “
TIF Thoughts on Phillips…
If Leeds couldn’t afford to lose a player on their side, it would be Phillips given he is the only player who can play in this maintenance role at the club, while considering how much injured and absent Bielsa has had to face this season, he will pray that Phillips does not join this list.
Leeds are hoping their season can now get off to a good start after beating Watford last week, and looking ahead to their matches they will be excited to face Southampton, Wolves and Norwich City – with two of them haven’t won yet in the league.
